Frequently Asked Questions

What Types of Hair Extensions do you Offer?

We offer a range of high-quality hair extension methods, including Tape-In Extensions, Clip-In Extensions, Keratin K-Tip Extensions, Keratin U-Tip Extensions, Nano Micro Ring Extensions, Wefts, Ponytails and Wigs. Each extension is designed to suit different hair types, lifestyles, and desired results. A professional consultation is recommended to determine the best option for you.

How Long do Hair Extensions Last?

Tape-In Extensions
Tape-in extensions typically last 6–8 weeks per application before requiring maintenance or reinstallation. With proper care, the hair itself can often be reused multiple times, extending its overall lifespan to 6–12 months.

Clip-In Extensions
Clip-in extensions can last 6–12 months or longer, depending on how frequently they are worn and how well they are maintained. Because they are not worn daily, clip-ins generally experience less wear and tear than semi-permanent extensions.

Keratin K-Tip Extensions
Keratin K-Tip extensions generally last 3–4 months per application. Longevity is influenced by natural hair growth and proper care. Due to the fusion bond, these extensions are not reusable and must be professionally removed.

Keratin U-Tip Extensions
Keratin U-Tip extensions typically last 3–4 months per application. Similar to K-Tips, they are individually bonded using keratin and provide a durable, natural-looking result. These extensions are not reusable and require professional removal.

Nano Micro Ring Extensions
Nano micro ring extensions usually last 8–12 weeks before needing maintenance, during which the rings are repositioned closer to the scalp. With correct care, the hair itself can be reused for 6–12 months.

Weft Extensions
Weft extensions generally last 6–8 weeks per installation, depending on the application method (such as sew-in, beaded weft, or braided). With appropriate care and regular maintenance, the hair can often be reused for 9–12 months.

Ponytail Extensions
Ponytail extensions typically last 6–12 months, depending on frequency of use and care. Since they are usually worn occasionally rather than daily, they tend to maintain their quality longer with proper storage and maintenance.

Wigs
The lifespan of wigs varies based on hair quality and wear frequency. High-quality human hair wigs can last 1–2 years or longer with proper care, while synthetic wigs typically last 3–6 months. Regular washing, correct storage, and gentle styling significantly extend longevity.

Will Hair Extensions Damage my Natural Hair?

When applied and maintained correctly, hair extensions should not damage your natural hair. Professional application by a trained stylist, along with selecting the appropriate extension method for your hair type, is essential to maintaining hair health.

Damage typically occurs when extensions are improperly installed, worn for longer than recommended, or not cared for correctly. Regular maintenance appointments, gentle handling, and using recommended hair care products help ensure your natural hair remains healthy.

It is also important to follow all aftercare instructions, avoid excessive tension, and refrain from pulling or over-styling the extensions. With proper application, routine maintenance, and correct at-home care, hair extensions can be worn safely while preserving the integrity of your natural hair

Can I Wash and Style my Extensions?

Yes, hair extensions can be washed and styled just like natural hair; however, proper care is essential to maintain their quality and longevity.

We recommend washing extensions only when necessary using sulfate-free and chemical-free products to prevent dryness and colour fading. Always apply conditioner from mid-lengths to ends, avoiding bonds, tapes, or attachment points.

Hair extensions can be blow-dried, curled, or straightened, but heat should be used sparingly. Excessive heat may shorten the lifespan of the hair and cause colour changes, particularly in blonde or chemically treated extensions. Always use a heat protectant and keep styling tools at a moderate temperature.

Allow hair to dry completely before sleeping and avoid styling or brushing extensions when they are wet. Following these guidelines will help preserve softness, shine, and overall performance of your extensions.

Can I Colour or Tone my Hair Extensions?

Hair extensions can be professionally coloured or toned; however, this should only be performed by an experienced stylist. Extensions are often chemically processed prior to purchase, which can affect how they respond to additional colour services.

Lightening or bleaching hair extensions is not recommended, as it may compromise the integrity, longevity, and overall quality of the hair. We recommend using professional salon-grade quality products, ammonia-free dyes and peroxides when colouring. Only use Semi - or Demi- Permanent Dye when possible as these are less harsh than permanent dyes & better suited for the preserving the softness and health of the extension hair.  Toning is typically suitable for adjusting or maintaining blonde shades, but blonde or chemically treated extensions may require extra moisture and care following any colour service.

Do a strand test first (small section) before colouring the full set of extensions to make sure the extensions react well to the dye and that the desired colour is matched in the final result.

Keep dyes away from tapes, keratin bonds, nano-micro rings and sewn-in wefts. The chemicals of the dyes can weaken the adhesive or bonding materials, resulting in slippages, damage, or shedding of hair.

After rising out the dyes, we recommend using a deep conditioner or moisturizing hair mask to rehydrate the hair extensions (only use sulfate-free products design for colour-treating hair).

We recommend air-drying your extensions where possible or you can use the lowest heat setting on your hairdryer to preserve the smooth texture of the hair extensions.

Please note that colour changes can occur over time due to heat styling, product use, sun exposure, or environmental factors. To maintain colour and extend the lifespan of your extensions, always use sulfate-free, chemical-free products and avoid excessive heat.

For best results, we strongly recommend consulting with your stylist before attempting any colour or toning services on your extensions.

No exchanges or refunds qualify after the extensions haven been used or coloured/toned.

How do I Care for my Hair Extensions at Home?

Proper at-home care is essential to maintaining the quality, appearance, and longevity of your hair extensions.

Gently brush your extensions daily using a soft-bristle or extension-safe brush, starting from the ends and working upward to prevent pulling or tension at the attachment points. Always support the bonds, tapes, or rings while brushing.

Wash your extensions only as needed using sulfate-free and chemical-free hair products. Apply shampoo gently and avoid excessive rubbing near the attachment areas. Condition from mid-lengths to ends, keeping conditioners and oils away from bonds or tapes.

Incorporate lightweight hair oils and deep conditioning treatments to keep the hair hydrated and shiny. Use heat styling sparingly and always apply a heat protectant before blow-drying or using hot tools. Excessive heat can reduce the lifespan of extensions and alter color, particularly in blonde or chemically treated hair.

Ensure hair is completely dry before sleeping and secure it in a loose braid or ponytail to prevent tangling. Regular maintenance appointments and following your stylist’s recommendations will help keep both your natural hair and extensions in optimal condition.

Are Hair Extensions Suitable for Fine or Thin Hair?

Yes, hair extensions can be suitable for fine or thin hair when the correct method is selected and applied by a trained professional. Lightweight extension options are specifically designed to add volume and length without placing excessive tension on the natural hair.

Methods such as tape-in extensions, nano micro ring extensions, and certain weft applications are often recommended for fine or thin hair due to their discreet, low-profile design. A professional consultation is essential to assess hair density, strength, and overall condition to ensure the safest and most effective extension method is chosen.

Proper application, routine maintenance, and correct at-home care are critical to preserving the health of fine or thin hair. When these guidelines are followed, hair extensions can provide natural-looking results while maintaining the integrity of your natural hair.

How to Choose the Correct Extension Colour?

Selecting the correct colour is one of the most important factors in achieving a seamless, natural-looking result with hair extensions. An accurate colour match ensures the extensions blend effortlessly with your natural hair, enhancing overall appearance while remaining discreet and undetectable.

Hair extensions are designed to complement your existing hair tone, including variations in highlights, lowlights, and undertones. Choosing a shade that is too light, too dark, or mismatched in undertone can result in a visible contrast, particularly in natural lighting or during styling.

Proper colour selection also reduces the need for additional chemical processing, which can compromise the integrity and longevity of the hair. Blonde and lighter shades, in particular, require careful matching, as excessive toning or colouring may affect hair quality over time.

Choosing the correct colour for your hair extensions is essential to achieving a natural, seamless blend. The right shade will enhance your overall look while ensuring the extensions remain discreet and undetectable within your natural hair.

When selecting a colour, it is important to consider not only your base shade but also your highlights, lowlights, and underlying tones.

Warm vs Cool Tones:

Cool undertones: Ash, beige, platinum, or icy shades will suit you better.

Warm undertones: Look for golden, caramel, honey, or copper hues.

Neutral undertones: You will have more flexibility on colour choosing and can often wear both warm or cool tones.

Hair extensions should complement the mid-lengths and ends of your natural hair rather than the roots, as this creates the most realistic finish. Matching undertones—whether warm, cool, or neutral—is equally important to prevent unwanted contrast.

Natural lighting should always be used when comparing colours, as artificial lighting can distort tone and depth. If you are between shades, selecting a slightly lighter colour is often preferable, as extensions can be professionally toned if needed. Darkening extensions, however, may limit their longevity and is not always recommended.

Tips when choosing your hair extensions colour

Selecting the correct hair extension colour is key to achieving a natural, seamless finish. Careful consideration during the colour selection process helps ensure optimal blending, longevity, and overall satisfaction with your extensions.

Match the Mid-Lengths and Ends
Always match hair extensions to the mid-lengths and ends of your natural hair rather than the roots. This creates a more realistic blend, especially for clients with highlights, balayage, or dimensional colour.

Consider Undertones
Pay close attention to undertones—warm, cool, or neutral—as they significantly impact how well extensions blend. Even if the shade appears similar, mismatched undertones can cause extensions to look unnatural in different lighting.

Use Natural Lighting
Assess colour matches in natural light whenever possible. Artificial lighting can alter the appearance of colour depth and tone, leading to inaccurate selection.

When in Doubt, Choose Slightly Lighter
If choosing between two shades, selecting a slightly lighter colour is often recommended. Extensions can typically be toned professionally, whereas darkening extensions may affect hair quality and reduce longevity.

Avoid Unnecessary Colour Processing
Minimizing additional colouring helps preserve the integrity and lifespan of the hair. Proper colour selection from the start reduces the need for chemical services.

Seek Professional Guidance
A professional consultation is the most reliable way to ensure accurate colour selection. A trained stylist can assess your natural hair, undertones, and desired result to recommend the most suitable extension colour.

By following these tips, you can achieve a flawless blend that enhances your natural hair while maintaining the quality and longevity of your extensions.

For the most accurate results, a professional consultation is strongly advised. A trained stylist can assess your natural hair colour, texture, and desired outcome to recommend the most suitable shade, ensuring optimal blend, longevity, and overall appearance of your hair extensions.

Why Tapes or Keratin Bonds Slip/Fall out

Premature slippage or shedding of tape-in or keratin bond extensions can occur for several reasons, most commonly related to application, aftercare, or product use. Understanding these factors is essential to maintaining the longevity and performance of your extensions.

Improper Application
Extensions must be applied by a trained professional using correct placement, tension, and bonding techniques. Incorrect sectioning, insufficient pressure on tape tabs, installed to close to the scalp or improper fusion of keratin bonds can weaken the attachment and lead to early slippage. Poor sectioning or tension during the application phase can also affect the bond longevity.

Product Buildup and Incorrect Hair Products
The use of conditioners, oils, masks, or styling products containing silicones, sulfates, or alcohol near the scalp can break down adhesives and keratin bonds. Product buildup around tapes or bonds reduces grip and may cause extensions to slide out prematurely. Tapes and Keratin bonds needs a clean, oil-free surface to stick/fuse properly. Using the wrong hair products, sulfate-based shampoos, alcohol-based styling sprays, and silicone-heavy conditioners can degrade the bonds or adhesives.

Washing too soon after Application

Washing your hair within 24-48 hours after your hair extension installation can weaken the adhesive or keratin bonds before it has fully set.

Excess Moisture and Inadequate Drying
Allowing extensions to remain wet for extended periods—particularly at the roots—can compromise adhesive strength and keratin bonds. Hair should always be thoroughly dried after washing or exercising.

Excessive Heat Exposure
High heat applied directly to tape tabs or keratin bonds can weaken adhesives and soften keratin, leading to slippage. Heat styling tools should be used with caution and kept away from attachment points whenever possible. High heat saunas can also compromise the adhesive seal on the tapes or soften the keratin bonds. Always dry your extensions at the root after a sauna or workout.

Natural Hair Texture and Scalp Conditions
Excessively oily scalps, heavy sweating, or certain hair textures may affect bond retention. In these cases, alternative extension methods or adjusted maintenance schedules may be recommended.

Tugging or Brushing at the Roots

Pulling or aggressive brushing can physically loosen or tear the adhesive tapes or bonds extensions out along with your own natural hair.

Delayed Maintenance Appointments
Wearing extensions beyond the recommended maintenance period can increase tension on the bonds as natural hair grows, leading to premature loosening or shedding.

Following professional application guidelines, using recommended products, and adhering to proper aftercare instructions will significantly reduce the risk of premature bond failure and help ensure the longevity of your hair extensions.

Tips to Prevent Hair Extensions from Slipping or Falling Out

Proper care and maintenance are essential to ensuring hair extensions remain secure and long-lasting. Following these professional guidelines can help prevent premature slipping or shedding of extensions.

Clarify Before Installation

Always wash your hair with a clarifying shampoo before applying your hair extensions to remove access oil, product buildup, and residue.

Choose Professional Application
Always have extensions applied by a trained and experienced stylist. Correct sectioning, placement, and bonding techniques are critical to ensuring secure attachment and minimizing tension on the natural hair.

Wait 48 hours before 1st Wash

Wait at least 24-48 hours before your first was to give the tapes or bonds time to fully cure and adhere before your first wash or heavy styling.

Use Extension-Safe Hair Products
Avoid shampoos, conditioners, masks, and styling products that contain sulfates, silicones, oils, or alcohol near the attachment points. These ingredients can weaken adhesives and keratin bonds, increasing the risk of slippage. Only use sulfate-free, alcohol-free, and silicone-free extension approved products.

Avoid Applying Products Near Bonds or Tapes
Conditioners, oils, and serums should be applied only to the mid-lengths and ends of the hair. Keeping products away from tapes, bonds, or rings helps maintain their grip and integrity.

Gentle Wash

Always wash gently in a downward motion and roots to ends. Never scrub or rough up the tapes or bonds. Avoid applying products directly over the bonded areas.

Dry Hair Thoroughly After Washing
Always ensure the hair—especially at the roots and attachment areas—is completely dry after washing, sweating, or swimming. Prolonged moisture can compromise adhesives and bonding strength. We recommend drying the tapes or bonds immediately after a wash. If you exercise regularly, tie your hair up loosely and wash soon after to remove sweat buildup.

Brush Extensions Gently
Brush carefully, support the attachment points when styling, and avoid pulling or tension from tight hairstyles. Gentle handling helps preserve both the extensions and your natural hair. We recommend using a loop or soft bristle brush, always starting at the ends working your way up while supporting the roots with your other hand. Never brush your extensions while they are wet.

Limit Heat at Attachment Points
Use heat styling tools sparingly and avoid direct heat on tapes or keratin bonds. Excessive heat can soften adhesives and keratin, leading to premature loosening.

Follow Recommended Maintenance Schedules
Attend regular maintenance appointments as advised by your stylist. Wearing extensions beyond the recommended timeframe can place excess strain on the attachments and increase the likelihood of slippage.

Reminder

Some bond loss over time is normal. Consistent fallout or slippages may indicate improper care, unsuitable product or a follow up reassessment is required at your stylist.

Why Hair May Shed While Wearing Extensions

Hair shedding while wearing extensions is a common and normal occurrence and is not always an indication of a problem with the extensions themselves. Understanding the reasons behind shedding can help set realistic expectations and provide reassurance.

Natural Hair Shedding
On average, individuals naturally shed 50–100 hairs per day. When wearing extensions, shed hairs can become trapped within the bonds, tapes, or attachment points rather than falling away. When extensions are brushed or removed, this accumulated shedding may appear more noticeable. Just like natural hair your extensions will also shed slightly over time as the extensions are made from 100% Remy Human Hair.

Reduced Daily Brushing
Extensions often require gentler, less frequent brushing near the roots. As a result, naturally shed hairs may remain within the extension system until detangled, making shedding appear more excessive than it actually is. Incorrect or harsh brushing can pull strands from your tape tab, bond or wefts and cause increased shedding. Never brush your extensions while wet. When wefts are still wet the weft stitching swells, and brushing the wet wefts can cause the hair to pull up and out of the stitching. Wet tapes & bonds are soft while wet, thus brushing can cause the adhesive or bonds to weaken which can be a premature result of shedding.

Excessive Styling & Washing

Over washing, using harsh products, and daily heat styling can cause weakening on the adhesive or bonds and can result in drying out the hair extension, making them more prone to shedding.

Hair Growth Cycles
Natural hair continues to follow its normal growth and shedding cycle while extensions are worn. Shedding related to seasonal changes, hormonal fluctuations, or stress may still occur and can be more visible with extensions in place.

Improper Aftercare or Tension
Excessive tension from tight hairstyles, aggressive brushing, or improper maintenance can contribute to increased shedding or breakage. Following professional aftercare guidelines helps minimize unnecessary stress on the hair. Never use shampoos with sulfate, alcohol, or silicone in as these chemicals can dry out your extensions or break down the adhesives or bonds that can cause shedding. Never wash your hair upside down or rubbing at the scalp as this can cause hair to loosen or shed from the attachments from the extensions. Colouring, toning, and bleaching hair extensions can cause cuticle, which will weaken the hair structure and increase breakage and shedding of the extension hair.

Extension Removal and Maintenance
During professional removal or maintenance appointments, trapped shed hairs are released, which may create the impression of significant hair loss. This is typically normal and expected.

With proper application, maintenance, and aftercare, hair extensions should not cause excessive shedding or damage. Regular consultations and following professional recommendations will help maintain the health of your natural hair while wearing extensions. We recommend using salon-grade extension removers. Never use non-recommended removers when removing your hair extensions (oils, harsh chemicals or alcohol).

Tips to Prevent Hair Extensions from Shedding

Proper care and handling are essential to minimizing shedding and maintaining the quality and longevity of your hair extensions. While some shedding is normal, following these professional guidelines can help prevent excessive hair loss and preserve the integrity of the extensions.

Handle Extensions Gently
Avoid pulling, tugging, or aggressive brushing. Use a soft-bristle or extension-safe brush and start from the ends, working upward while supporting the attachment points to reduce stress on the hair.

Use Recommended Hair Care Products
Wash extensions with sulfate-free, silicone-free, alcohol-free, and chemical-free shampoos and conditioners - always use extension-safe products. Harsh ingredients can dry out the hair, weaken strands, and contribute to shedding. Avoid applying conditioner, oils, or masks directly to bonds, tapes, or attachment areas. Avoid products with alcohol, keratin, and protein in , as these can cause the hair to become brittle.

Limit Excessive Heat Styling
Frequent or high-heat styling can weaken the hair shaft and lead to breakage and shedding. Always use a heat protectant and keep styling tools at a moderate temperature.

Keep Hair Hydrated
Incorporate hydrating hair masks and deep conditioning treatments weekly to nourish and strengthen the stands. Always focus on the mid-lengths and ends to maintain moisture and elasticity. Well-hydrated hair is less prone to dryness and breakage. Never the tapes or bond areas.

Brush Before Washing and Sleeping
Gently detangle extensions before washing and before bed to prevent matting and tension. Secure hair in a loose braid or ponytail while sleeping to reduce friction.

Gentle Wash

Always was in a downwards motion to prevent stress or tangling on the extensions. Never twist, bunch, or scrub the hair.

Letting the tapes or bonds sit wet for a long period of time can cause weakening of the glue or stitching, which can cause shedding. Always dry the roots after washing.

Brushing Gently
Brush carefully, support the attachment points when styling, and avoid pulling or tension from tight hairstyles. Gentle handling helps preserve both the extensions and your natural hair. We recommend using a loop or soft bristle brush, always starting at the ends working your way up slowly while supporting the roots with your other hand. Never brush your extensions while they are wet.

Sleeping with Extensions

Never sleep with wet hair as this can cause matting and unnecessary stress on the extensions. Make sure your hair is always dry, your hair is loosely pinned up in a loose bun or loosely braided before going to bed.

Avoid Chemicals

Lightening or bleaching hair extensions is not recommended, as it may compromise the integrity, longevity, and overall quality of the hair. We recommend using professional salon-grade quality products, ammonia-free dyes and peroxides when colouring. Only use Semi - or Demi- Permanent Dye when possible as these are less harsh than permanent dyes & better suited for the preserving the softness and health of the extension hair.  Avoid products that contains sulfate, bleach, silicone, keratin, protein, alcohol and ammonia as these products can cause breakages, shedding and decrease the longevity of the extensions. Avoid any anti-fizz or straightening treatments, especially if they contain keratin.

Secure Wefts

Sewn-in Wefts - always make sure they are installed with enough tension and anchored securely to your natural hair as loose stitching from the wefts can lead to hair pulling out of the weft base. When cutting a weft's stitching, always seal the cutting points with glue to prevent shedding.

Normal vs Excessive Shedding

Normal: A few strands of hair comes out when you are brushing or washing your hair.

Excessive: Clumps or noticeable thinning of the hair extension over a short period of time - this may require a professional assessment or replacement.

Follow Maintenance Guidelines
Attend regular maintenance appointments and do not exceed the recommended wear time for your extension method. Proper repositioning or removal helps prevent unnecessary strain on both the extensions and your natural

hair.

By following these tips and your stylist’s aftercare instructions, you can significantly reduce shedding and keep your hair extensions looking full, healthy, and polished for longer.
